Trophy Events
In addition to the regular series races, there are a number of Trophy Events which can be anything from a single race through to a 6 race Trophy Weekend, with the trophies being awarded at the end of the event. Although the programme can vary from year to year the annual events include;
Trophy Weekends
There are two Trophy Weekends held at different times of the year to fit in with the rest of the sailing programme and other Club activities, the Roy & Mary Trophy and the Golden Spoon Trophy. Both follow a similar format with six races held over two days with 3 different courses and the option of a Committee Boat start if conditions are suitable. The Golden Spoon event also includes a Golden Teaspoon Trophy for novice sailors.
Water Gala Trophy
One of the Club’s oldest trophies, presented by Broadstairs & St Peters Town Council in 1936, is for a race held in the evening of Broadstairs Water Gala.
The New Waterloo Despatch Trophies
Junior and adult members race, as near as possible to 18thJune, for two trophies presented to the Club in 2015 to mark the 200thanniversary of the Battle of Waterloo.
“The race remembers the landing in Broadstairs of Napoleon’s “Eagle” standard, captured during the battle and which stayed in the town before being transported to London and presented to the King and Parliament by Major Percy.”
The Dyson Dash Hospice Race
A charity race held annually on August Bank Holiday Monday, in memory of Steve Dyson, for the Dyson Dash Trophy and The Two Fat Ladies Trophy. Since 2009 the Club has raised over £30,000 for the local Hospice.
