Learning to Sail
As a recognised RYA Training Centre, Broadstairs Sailing Club is able to offer members training and coaching sessions during the sailing season. These are taught within the framework of the RYA National Sailing Scheme and Youth Sailing Scheme by members who are qualified RYA instructors.
All sessions are organised and staffed by club members giving up their time to encourage people into the sport. We are able to sign log books and issue final RYA qualifications. Details of the RYA National Sailing Schemes can be found at www.rya.org.uk
2021 Training Programme (Subject to Covid Restrictions)
Do you want to learn to sail but don’t know where to start?
Do you want to go beyond training and be able to sail on a regular basis?
Do you want to take part in more club events?
Looking ahead to the 2021 season, Broadstairs SC would like to help YOU get out onto the water, and to quickly and safely build up your skills and confidence so as to be able to sail regularly at our friendly club.
As a recognised training centre, we will be providing Royal Yachting Association training courses for beginners through to experienced sailors for club members. Through our programme of sailing activities and events, we will be giving you plenty of opportunity to practice and enjoy your new passion.
Beginner to Race Ready Sailing Sessions
On Saturday mornings in the first half of the season, we will be running beginner to race ready RYA sessions. The provisional dates are:
Saturday Training Session (0900 hrs Start, finish 1300hrs)
5th June, Skip one, 19th June, 26th June, 3rd July, 10th July, 17th July
Afternoon Consolidation of Skills
In the afternoon of the above training dates, there will be experienced people on the water offering advice and guidance. During this time attendees can elect to practice their skills or simply enjoy cruising – all of which qualifies as relevant hours in the sailor’s log book and so count toward their qualifications.
All trainees are invited to sail in the trainee’s race that will open Broadstairs SC’s annual Golden Spoon sailing event on 26th June.
All New Sailing Opportunities
This year Broadstairs SC is launching a development programme for those who have reached a competent level in their training course. Club boats will be available for this entire programme.
