The Broadstairs Sailing Club's Who's Who Guide

Flag Officers

Commodore‚ Doug Spooner

The Commodore is the ‘face’ of the club and is the chairman of the Executive Committee.
Doug has been Commodore since March 2007 and although no longer active on the water, Doug maintains a role in the racing as one of the clubs excellent Race Officers.

Vice Commodore‚ Adrian Trice

The Vice Commodore has a responsibility for the Club’s off the water facilities‚ the clubhouse‚ and everything in it.
Adrian can often be seen manning the club’s patrol boats and looks after the clubs electrical systems.

Rear Commodore‚ Mick Lawrence

Where Vice Commodore is off the water‚ the Rear Commodore is responsible for the ‘on the water’ side of things. e.g. club racing calendar‚ open events‚ patrol boats.
Mick made the change from Patrol Boat Officer to Rear Commodore in 2007. He has a Topper Sport 14 that he sails with his wife, club Secretary Linda.

Officers and Secretaries

Treasurer‚ Linda Hawkes

Balancing the books (and, when we can afford to, letting us redecorate the lounge) is the role of Treasurer.
Linda H crews a Miracle with husband, Ron. Linda is also one of the clubs more experienced race timekeepers.

Secretary Linda Lawrence

Deals with official club correspondence and minutes the meetings.
Linda L enjoys the odd sail with husband Mick and the grandkids. Linda L is also an experienced race timekeeper. She also has really long hair.

Bar Treasurer Steve Dyson

The new bar has become the focal point of the club. Keeping the bar supplied with all it needs, from bottle openers to bottles of gin, and keeping the accounts of the clubs primary source of income, is the job of the Bar Treasurer.
Steve took over as Bar Treasurer in 2006 from Richard Noble, who had held the position for over 30 years. He sails a Laser 2000 and makes up the other half of the "Two Fat Ladies" with Peter Holland.

Social Secretary VACANT

The organisation of the club's many social activities from the after sailing meals to the major events like the Festive Supper (now over two nights, its so big!) is the job of the Social Committee headed by the Social Secretary.
This position is currently vacant. If you are interested in the job then contact the Commodore, Doug Spooner.

Facilities Officer VACANT

Every organisation needs a maintenance man. The facilities officer is responsible for making sure that the club house is maintained in good order.
This position is currently vacant. If you are interested in the job then contact the Commodore, Doug Spooner.

Membership Secretary Deborah Thomas

Organising and maintaining the membership records database and processing new ones is the Membership Secretary.
Debbie is a regular racing sailor and gets some great results whether sailing an RS200 with one of her sons, Richard, Christopher or Mark, or on her own in Richard's Topper. Husband Ceri sails an RS Vareo.

Sailing Secretary Ben Twist

The Sailing Secretary is the person in the club that plans the club's racing program, prepares the results and liases with classes to host open events.
Ben helms an ISO with his wife Sue as the crew.

Patrol Boat Officer Chris Wood

In order to run the racing, the clubs patrol boats are essential. Their maintenance and availability is the responsibility of the Patrol Boat Officer. As is writing the Patrol Boat rota.
Chris Wood is one of the singlehanded asymmetric Vareo sailors.

Boat Park Officer Peter Binskin-Barnes

Organising who goes where, dishing out the all important stickers, and making sure that everyone has paid their dues is the job of the Boat Park Officer.
Peter or 'Binsk' enjoys being out on the water, whether he's racing with daughter Jade in a Laser 2000, or playing with himself in a Contender.

Training Officer Dave Adams

To make sure the club has good racing and that members understand what's going on training sessions are organised by the Training Officer.
Dave Adams is an experienced sailor and has sailed everything from Toppers up to an RS800 and now sails a Laser 2000 with Julie Wood.

Principal Race Officer Edward Temple

When it comes to putting on an open meeting and running a slick racing program effectively and on time the man in charge is the Principal Race Officer.
Ted Temple is the very definition of salty sea dog. He's sailed the waters around Broadstairs since he was a boy. Ted raced a Laser up until a few years ago.
